“Beethoven’s vision is of the cosmos. Mozart is about the drama and entanglements of human life and love. Schubert’s music is between life and death; he dreams, with his eyes on the far horizon. His music is at once personal and profound. Every note speaks and touches your soul.”

Mitsuko Uchida has embarked on a two-year journey, exploring Schubert’s piano sonatas. The series which presents six sonatas in two recitals started at the Musikverein in Vienna and London’s Royal Festival Hall in the autumn. Carnegie Hall, New York and the Berlin Philharmonie will follow in the spring of 2018. Schubert lovers will have the opportunity to extend their journey into 2018/19, with another pair of recitals at these major venues.

The Festival Hall recitals, part of the Southbank International Piano Series were reviewed in the Observer. In December, Schubert was also on the programme for an exceptional concert with Mark Padmore at the Wigmore Hall featuring Winterreise.

North American audiences can look forward to concerts with the Cleveland Orchestra in February, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Chicago Symphony in May.
